How do other people around the world unite the arts with their community when Arts & Culture is not widely represented?

I left work early today to interview for a volunteer position with the Red Chair Project. I love this non-profit org. It's so ideal. They connect with arts and culture organizations in the Central Florida (U.S.) community to serve as a hub. It acts as a median between the cultural scenes and locals to get community members out of their homes and into restaurants, galleries, music venues, tea shops, etc. that they may otherwise never hear about/experience. It's a great action since the city I live in is growing, but is slow to do so.

So I've been looking for a long time to contribute to Arts & Culture in my community, and this is the best way to do it right now--I'm looking for volunteer opps that engage my interests/passions.

One thing I found very cool when I walked into the office (which by the way, on the outset, is a giant room with a table in the middle and a couch), everyone was 20-something. I'm not partial to age grouping, but I am enthralled by the contributions that Gen Y has been/is/will be making to corporations, orgs, + institutions. Stereotypical or not, this group offers very unique perspectives and ways of accomplishing tasks. So it was very exciting now that I'm getting involved with a group has a fresh outlook and seems boundless with creative input + isn't afraid to take risks.

I'll follow up with it in my blog partially because of the nature of the job--reaching out to people via online social networks. :) wish me luck, it will definitely be fun + inventive!
