Redistribution of Wealth
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

Gregory M posted a comment to my previous post, and since I've been thinking a lot about types of governments lately, I'm writing up a blog.

"The goal is not to redistribute the wealth, but to create it." -John McCain, Oct. 2008

What is SO WRONG with redistributing the wealth? Why do Americans have to financially profit from everything they do? Why does everyone need to become a capitalist? I do things for free so that non-profits can gain from them. They don't make money, only exposure. And I wonder, what do I gain from them, what do they gain from me? Will I ever really gain back what I give? You know what, I don't care. "Time is money" is a horribly capitalist statement, because in Eastern religions, time is so much more than worldly, it's spiritual.

McCain's statement above comes across as a scare tactic to make Americans afraid they'll lose capitalism. But capitalism cannot be lost, especially in a democratic society. That is the beauty of checks and balances and a representation of the foundations of American government. A poll taken recently showed that worldwide, many of the "happiest" countries are Scandinavian--well known for socialist policies--all ranking closely to the United States. [http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/in_depth/7487143.stm -- Eurocentric? Possibly.]

About Obama being called a "socialist" -- according to opponents, everything about him is extreme. He's a radical! A separatist! A Muslim! A socialist! It's all black and white, there's no gray. THIS is what's known as backlash -- once Progress is taking place, it's time to whip out the dualist propaganda.
